Modern Rugs

The words modern rugs are really contradictory in terms as the method of making rugs is anything but modern. Contemporary Rugs, Funky Rugs and Fashion rugs are just a few of the alternate descriptions for a modern rug which really refers the content of texture and design of the rug. We can try to categorise the contemporary rugs as geometric designs, funky rugs as irregular flowers and waves and fashion rugs as vibrant colours, but at the end of the day a modern rug is simply a design that doesn’t have the traditional design elements.

Because the design rule book goes out of the window the elements of modern rugs can take absolutely any combination of shapes or can use tasteful graduations from one colour to another. The vast majority of modern rug designs are kept fairly simple mainly because more complicated designs are usually more expensive to produce.

A modern rug trend referred to as Transitional rugs is slowly creeping in from the USA; transitional are rugs that have a combination of both modern and traditional design elements. A typical transitional design would consist of a traditional rug border with leopard skin centre design or designs that look would look more at home on a Hawaiian shirt.
